Research Group Bioinformatics Core

Our research

Below we summarise research activities in the Bioinformatics Core, focusing on projects in the areas of genome analysis, translational medicine, and visual analytics.

Genome analysis

The Genome Analysis team performs large-scale genomic and genetic analyses in the fields of complex and rare human diseases, in particular Parkinson鈥檚 disease (PD) and genetic epilepsies. It is involved in systems genetics projects in humans and other model organisms, works on computational methods to understand the host-microbe interactions, and has developed reproducible workflows for large-scale microbiome multi-omics studies (in close collaboration with the Systems Ecology group of Prof. Paul Wilmes).

Visual analytics

We offer expertise and tools for visualisation, visual exploration, and analytics of complex biological mechanisms. We construct diagrams of molecular mechanisms affected by pathology of different diseases (disease maps), focusing on neurodegeneration and immune pathways.
