They are academic leaders who assume responsibility for the strategic development and international visibility of research and teaching activities in their field and at the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½, for career paths of junior scholars, and for relevant strategic partnerships. They contribute to university governance and development by fulfilling institutional mandates or through participation in high-level institutional projects.

  Associate professors at the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luxembourg are accomplished scholars whose scientific track record, achievements in teaching, and impact have established them as reputable, internationally recognised experts in their field. They assume responsibility for leading research teams and teaching programmes, advance the reputation of their field and the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ through consistently high-quality research production and well-received teaching activity, leverage their expertise to the benefit of wider society, and contribute to institutional development and strategy.

• Research
  • Established reputation based on research excellence in their field
  • Ability to conduct independent excellent or high-quality research
  • Excellent or high-quality publications in international journals and other recognised works following the standards of the discipline
  • Demonstrated success in acquiring external funding
  • Ability to build and lead a research team
  • Ability to supervise doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers

• Teaching
  • Several years of experience in higher education teaching at different levels, with progressively responsible roles
  • Active involvement in curriculum development

• Knowledge Transfer
  • Regular speaker at national or international conferences
  • Co-organiser of workshops, conferences, or similar academic events

R3 – Established researcher

• Profile

  Assistant professors at the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luxembourg are aspiring scholars who have demonstrated potential through a growing track record of independent research and teaching. They are actively developing their international reputation through quality publications, effective teaching, and recognised contributions to their academic community. Assistant professors engage in collaborative research projects, lead research initiatives, contribute to the development of research.

  • Ability or potential to conduct independent high-quality research
  • Excellent or high-quality publications in international journals and other recognised works following the standards of the field
  • Ability to supervise doctoral students

• Teaching
  • Extensive teaching experience, supported by relevant teaching qualifications
  • Mentorship of undergraduate students and supervision of graduate students

• Knowledge Transfer
  • Presentations (of papers) at conferences
  • Engagement in local outreach activities

• Administration and management

  Contribution to the running of the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ through designated committee, representative or project activities

Level 1 and Level 2

• Profile

  Research Scientists are academics who have completed their PhD and possess proven research experience. Depending on their level (Level 1 or Level 2), they lead or manage research projects, contribute to methodology development, secure funding, publish in recognised journals, and supervise doctoral students and research staff. Their profiles may focus on research, teaching, or technical expertise.

  • Right to supervise doctoral candidates (Autorisation à Diriger des Recherches (ADR)) (Level 2)

• Teaching
  • Contribution to the improvement of study courses/programmes and development of courses at bachelor, master, and/or doctoral training
