About
E-CoLux is a research project that helps countries prepare their energy systems for the growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). As EV use increases, so does electricity demand, creating challenges for power grids. The project develops a decision-support tool to guide the placement of charging stations and the design of fair, efficient electricity pricing. A key innovation of E-CoLux is its focus on cross-border commuters and different types of EV users, whose charging behaviours affect electricity demand in distinct ways. This is particularly relevant in Luxembourg, where many workers commute from neighbouring countries. Using survey data, government statistics, and electricity market information, E-CoLux builds models to simulate future scenarios and support better planning decisions. Although developed for Luxembourg, the tool can be adapted to other regions. By engaging energy providers and policymakers, E-CoLux promotes an EV transition that is environmentally sustainable, economically efficient, and socially fair.
