The Sound of a Story, the Story of a Sound
A creative workshop by Books & Beats a.s.b.l. in collaboration with Espace Cultures
This interactive workshop brings together storytelling, creative writing and electronic music. In a welcoming and collaborative environment, participants explore how words and sounds interact, shape emotion, and build meaning.
Through a series of creative activities participants will experiment with different modes of expression to develop their own original piece. This might involve writing a short story, crafting a poem, developing song lyrics, or composing a sound-based work. They may choose to work individually or collaborate with others in small groups.Objectives
This workshop encourages experimentation, curiosity and creative confidence, offering the chance to discover new ways of expressing ideas through stories and sounds.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Understand how storytelling and music can complement and enrich one another.
- Practice collaboration, communication, and constructive feedback.
- Reflect on their own creative process and the work of others.
Language
Discussions, instructions and group activities will be held in English in order to create a shared space for participants from a variety of backgrounds.
Participants may choose to write and create in the language they feel most comfortable with.
No advanced level of English is required to take part in the workshop
Participation
Each workshop session is designed to be a standalone experience.
Participants are welcome to attend any session, even if they have not participated in previous ones. Attendance across all four sessions is not required. While participants who take part in multiple sessions may choose to continue developing their ideas across the different workshops, each session includes its own activities, creative exercises and opportunities to create and share new work.

Materials needed
- A pen and paper or a laptop for writing.
or
- A laptop to install a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and headphones for music creation.
No prior music production experience is required. However, to make the most of the workshop, we recommend that participants have some basic knowledge of electronic music production and/or previous experience using a DAW.
Number of participants & registration
To provide a supportive environment and ensure everyone receives individual guidance, the workshop is limited to a maximum of 10 places. Of these, 6 are allocated to written creation and 4 to music creation.
