Thermodynamics is a two-century-old theory used to study energy flows and energy conversion throughout the natural sciences to study energy flows and energy conversion. However, this theory can’t be used or is insufficient for many complex systems, such as living systems, ecosystems, power grids, information and telecommunication networks. In this context, how to formulate a thermodynamics of complex systems remains largely unknown and is one of our main goals.

Prof. Massimiliano Esposito is Professor of Theoretical Physics at the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luxembourg. He is heading the Complex Systems and Statistical Mechanics research group in the Department of Physics and Materials Science. Dr. Emanuele Penocchio was part of the research group and is now occupying a postdoctoral position at Northwestern 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ in Chicago.

Alexandre Tkatchenko is Full Professor in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luxembourg and Head of the  and Head of the Theoretical Chemical PhysicsÌý²µ°ù´Ç³Ü±è.

His research interests focus on quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and machine learning to develop efficient methods to enable accurate modeling and new insights into complex materials. Prof. Tkatchenko has also received 5 flagships grants from the European Research Council (ERC).
