Prof. Claus Vögele, PhD, Dipl.-Psych., CPsychol, CSci, AFBPsS
Claus Vögele graduated in Psychology (Dipl.-Psych., equivalent to MSc) at Landau 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ in 1983, and was awarded his PhD in Psychology from the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Hamburg in 1988, and his professorial qualification (Habilitation) from the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Marburg in 1997. Over the last 25 years he has held academic posts at both German and British Universities (St George’s Hospital Medical School, 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of London; School of Psychology, 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Birmingham; Department of Psychology, 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Marburg; Department of Psychology, 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luton; School of Human and Life Sciences, Roehampton 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½, London) before joining the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luxembourg in February 2010 as Professor of Clinical and Health Psychology.
Administrative offices and leadership positions in his previous appointments include the directorship of study programmes (MSc in Health Psychology) and of research centres (Clinical and Health Psychology), Assistant Dean Research, RAE Psychology co-ordinator and Chair of the School Ethics Committee. At the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luxembourg, Prof. Claus Vögele is currently Head of the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½â€™s Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS). Previously he was Head of the Department of Behavioural and Cognitive Sciences. He leads the research group Self-regulation and Health, is Director of the Master programme in Psychotherapy, and was a founding member and past Chair of the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½â€™s Ethics Review Panel.
In the past he has held honorary appointments with universities in Germany, Switzerland and the UK; currently he holds a guest professorship at the and is a visiting researcher at the Max-Planck-Institute for Human Development (Berlin, Germany).
He is reviewer for numerous research funding organisations (including the EU FP7 programme and Horizon2020), appointed member of a reviewer college (FNRS Scientific Commission Sciences Humaines et Sociales; Belgium), and ad-hoc reviewer for over 50 national and international journals. He is chief-editor of one international and one national journal, and editorial board member of one international and one national journal. In addition, Prof. Vögele is editor of two special issues of a national journal, and of the section Health of the International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences. He is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS), a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK), an active member of the Standing Committee for Psychology and Health (EFPA), Chair of the Division of Health Psychologyin the German Psychological Society (terms of office: 2011-2013, 2013-2015) and President of the German Society for Behavioural Medicine (DGVM; term of office: 2013-2016, 2016-2018). A chartered Clinical and Health Psychologist (BPS, Health and Care Professions Council) and registered practice supervisor (BPS) he has been practising for the last 25 years and has held a senior position in the National Health Service (UK).
