Professor Stanciu (Adrian) is the current head of the Institute for Lifespan Development, Family, and Culture. He researches at the intersection of four interdisciplinary themes: ageing (developmental processes in old age), culture (specifics of migrant populations), mental health (loneliness, depression, and anxiety), and digital technology (information and communication technologies, and algorithms like AI).

His mission and goal is to contribute with systematic evidence to creating inclusive and sustainable societies in times of rapid technological growth while an increasing number of international migrants grow old and settle in foreign countries. As such, he works on establishing two lines of research.

Growing old in a foreign country

The specific risk factors and health needs of people growing old in a foreign country are insufficiently addressed in research, policy making and technology development. This contributes with increased challenges leading to aggravated health inequalities in society. Professor Stanciu works on a series of conceptual and empirical papers to define this field of inquiry.

Digital technology and inequalities

Digital technology can offer cost-effective solutions to individual and societal challenges including in administration, health, and at work. However, not everyone has access to technology or posses the skills to benefit fully from technology. Specific populations such as migrants and younger and older workers face unique challenges compared to mainstream majority populations leading to new forms of inequalities. Professor Stanciu has networked with an interdisciplinary team of experts aiming to identify effective solutions that work for everyone in policy and technology.

Other

Professor Stanciu is principal investigator on the FNR-funded project DYNAMIQUES (initially awared to Prof. Christoph Niepel, now at 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Oldenburg, Germany).

His work is collaborative involving co-creation processes with representatives of public and private sectors as well as directly including perspectives from members of the studied populations.
