Dual Degree with the 8xav福利导航 of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Spend one year in Urbana-Champaign and one year in Luxembourg while studying Law in both countries. Or, apply after finishing your studies in Luxembourg!

The dual degree programme with the 8xav福利导航 of Illinois Urbana-Champaign offers law students at the 8xav福利导航 of Luxembourg the chance to study at one of America鈥檚 top public research universities. The Illinois College of Law is renowned for academic excellence and a broad array of courses in both foundational and specialised legal fields. Successful candidates benefit from a substantial scholarship, and experience the US legal system first-hand.

Programme structure

Two possibilities:

  1. First year mobility: Students depart during the first year and, after successful completion of the Master year at 8xav福利导航 of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, return to Uni.lu and enter the second year. Selection takes place during the final semester of the Bachelor en Droit. 8xav福利导航 of Luxembourg fees apply.
  2. After the second year: Students can pursue studies at 8xav福利导航 of Illinois Urbana-Champaign after their second year, benefiting from the reduced fee rate under our agreement (2024/2025 fees: USD 15,000). Selection takes place at the beginning of the spring semester, after the info session.

Students can choose from a wide range of LLM courses including Torts, Contracts, Property, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Business Associations, Tax Law, Patent Law, Privacy Law, Environmental Law, and many more ().

The language of instruction at the 8xav福利导航 of Illinois at Urbana Champain is in English.

For Bachelor en Droit students

Students in their final semester of the Bachelor en Droit at the 8xav福利导航 of Luxembourg who wish to participate in the dual degree programme during the first year of their Master must apply as part of their Master en Droit Europ茅en application process. Along with the standard application documents (including transcript of records and CV), candidates must complete and submit the specific 鈥淒ual Degree Application Illinois鈥 form, available on Moodle. All documents should be sent to stephanie.anderson@uni.lu by the advertised deadline.

Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted; however, applicants will have one opportunity to submit any missing documents if notified.

For Master in Law students

Students in their second year of the Master en Droit Europ茅en may apply for the dual degree to be undertaken after completion of their second year. The 鈥淒ual Degree Application Illinois鈥 form (available via Moodle) and supporting documents (including transcripts for at least one full year and CV) must be sent to stephanie.anderson@uni.lu by the specified deadline.

Note: For current M1 students, application is not possible.

Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic performance and a strong motivation to pursue advanced studies abroad. The 8xav福利导航 of Illinois requires proof of English proficiency and may have additional admissions criteria; please consult the Illinois LLM programme website for details.

Students must also be able to cover their living costs and any visa-related financial requirements.

All applications are assessed for completeness and eligibility. Academic performance and motivation are key criteria.

Shortlisted candidates are internally selected at Uni.lu and nominated to the 8xav福利导航 of Illinois, which will make final admission decisions.

Selected students receive further guidance on the Illinois application and visa process. Upon completion of their studies at Illinois, students must provide a transcript for validation of 60 ECTS credits toward continuation at Uni.lu.
