Luca Ratti is Professor of European and Comparative Labour Law at the Department of Law, 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luxembourg. He currently holds a Jean Monnet Chair in EU Labour Law. He is the Director of the Master 1 in European law (first year) and the head of the Teaching committee at the Department of Law. At 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ level, he is an active member of the Reasonable Accommodations Committee, tasked to raise awareness (also through ) and support students’ special needs.

Prof. Ratti’s main research themes include in-work poverty and the regulation of minimum wages, the digitalisation of work relations, and the sustainability of the European social model.

He has obtained as PI important competitive funding including: Horizon2020 project , recently awarded by the EU Commission Research Agency as one of ; IAS Audacity project W@W – Wellbeing at Work (2021/2024) focused on .

Prof. Ratti has been invited as keynote speaker to several international events, seminars, and colloquia, and has organised lecture series and international conferences on labour law, including: June 2024 – two-day international conference in Luxembourg on adequate minimum wages in the EU, with the participation of 16 renowned experts. January 2023 – one-day , with participation of the UN Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty. March 2022 – two-day .

He has published more than 120 articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and serves on the editorial board of four labour law journals.

Prof. Ratti teaching at Bachelor and Masters level covers a broad range of subjects such as Transsystemic Labour Law, EU labour law, Labour Law and Technology, EU Social Security, EU Social Policy, and Comparative Contract Law.

Prof. Ratti engaged in activities of science popularisation on a number of topics, including the right to disconnect, the regulation of minimum wages, and working poverty. He has been interviewed several times by newspapers (Wort, Delano, Tageblatt, La Repubblica, Lëtzebuerger Journal, Lux Times), radio stations (Radio 100.7; RTL Radio), and TV channels (RTL), contributing to the public debate on these topics and participating in podcasts and documentaries. He contributed to create the , a museum dedicated to labour and workers, established in view of the 2022 European Capital of Culture attributed to the City of Esch-sur-Alzette (LU).

Between 2008 and 2012, he was Post-doctoral Researcher at the Universities of Verona and Bologna. Between 2012 and 2015, he was Senior Researcher (Ricercatore) and Adjunct Professor in Labour Law, at the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Bologna. He joined the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Luxembourg in 2015. He is part of the European Centre of Expertise on Labour Law and has been consulted regularly by EU institutions including the EU Commission and European Parliament. Between 2023 and 2024, he served as Expert for the EU Commission (REA – Horizon Europe) to review Horizon Europe projects.

Prof. Ratti obtained his PhD in Labour Law with distinction form the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Bologna (2007), after graduating cum laude at the 8xav¸£Àûµ¼º½ of Modena (2003).
