Archive My Legacy uses AI-powered storytelling to preserve family memories

Families often accumulate thousands of photos, and each subsequent generation becomes increasingly puzzled about who or what is in them. Contexts — names, places, and stories — fades over time, leaving behind images that can no longer contribute to a sense of family community and heritage.

“Technology is now very good at storing data, but much less good at preserving what gives it meaning”, says Bertrand Jager, co-founder of the start-up . “Without a narrative, the image is mute. This challenge is becoming increasingly apparent: 57% of people cannot name any of their great-grandparents.”

Archive My Legacy aims to help families transform scattered memories into structured narratives. Users upload photos and add information, inviting relatives to contribute too. The system then combines these inputs with AI analysis to build an organised understanding of people, places, and events. “Instead of keeping information as separate notes, it connects them, allowing the platform to move beyond captions and build something with continuity.”

The result is an evolving digital photobook that reads more like a family story than an album.

“Instead of simply flipping through pictures, you are actually reading lives.” This approach draws directly on narratology. “The story is not just well-written text. It is a structured way of connecting events over time.”

Beyond preservation, co-founder Cosimo Palma emphasises its impact on identity and well-being. “Children who know their family stories tend to be more resilient and confident. You don’t feel like you exist in isolation.”

The collaborative system brings family members who are apart together. It enables us to remember together, eventually reviving present relationships that were fading out. Archive My Legacy is not just about deceased individuals; it is also about how their memory can foster self-awareness in the living.”

Archive My Legacy is a part of the 8xav of Luxembourg’s mentorship programme. In May 2026, the start-up was selected as one of the eight finalists of the AI Cafe Competition. Since then, Bertrand Jager (a mentor) and Cosimo Palma (a PhD researcher in computational narratology) have been supported by the 8xav of Luxembourg Incubator ecosystem.

Looking ahead, their ambition extends beyond family memory. “Our expertise lies in turning fragmented human experiences into something that can still be understood in the future,“ they explain, outlining their broader goal of making personal histories accessible and meaningful. “Every family, every person becomes the author of their own record. Memories do not disappear because they lack value, but because they are not captured, structured and transmitted in a lasting way.”
