(Second day)"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\"><p><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p><p>Prof. Neves\u2019 talk will be based on his book project <i>Transdemocracy<\/i>. This project is geared towards a new understanding of democracy, considering that so-called \u2018democratic\u2019 modern decisions negatively affect other peoples and thus become undemocratic. In this sense, the\u00a0\u00a0 concept of \u2018people sovereignty\u2019 has to be redefined. To put it differently. It is no longer sufficient to identify democracy with \u2018we the people\u2019. Democracy must incorporate \u2018the others\u2019, and so add the phrase \u2018the others, the people<i>s<\/i>\u2019 as an expression of its self-understanding. From an almost exclusive stress on people\u2019s identity, democracy has to switch to an emphasis on people<i>s<\/i>\u2019 alterity.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>The talk will be divided in four parts according to the four chapter of the planned book <i>Transdemocracy<\/i>. The first part deals with the antidemocratic character of polity [<i>polite\u00eda<\/i>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/%CF%80%CE%BF%CE%BB%CE%B9%CF%84%CE%B5%CE%AF%CE%B1#Ancient_Greek\" target=\"_self\" title=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">\u03c0\u03bf\u03bb\u03b9\u03c4\u03b5\u03af\u03b1<\/a>] in ancient Greek, considering its exclusionary character. The second part is related to the misunderstanding of the concept of democracy in modern liberal revolutions, considering the emphasis on the isolationist concept of people\u2019s sovereignty. The third part concerns the negative impact of democratic countries on their political and social environment through colonialism, neocolonialism, and imperialism.
