{"id":55822,"date":"2025-12-17T11:11:39","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T10:11:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/?post_type=news&#038;p=55822"},"modified":"2026-01-06T11:18:33","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T10:18:33","slug":"european-citizens-initiative-eci-ambassadors-network-7th-meeting-for-the-year-2025","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/news\/european-citizens-initiative-eci-ambassadors-network-7th-meeting-for-the-year-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"European Citizens Initiative (ECI) Ambassadors Network \u2013 7th\u00a0meeting for the year 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p><strong>On December 12, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/c2dh-en\/people\/elena-danescu\/\"><strong>Dr Elena Danescu<\/strong><\/a><strong>, manager of the ED-UNILU and <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citizens-initiative.europa.eu\/_en\"><strong>ECI<\/strong><\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citizens-initiative.europa.eu\/_en\"> <\/a>Ambassador, took part in the seventh ECI Network Meeting<\/strong>, the final online meet-up of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These meetups are informal, peer-to-peer exchanges, with short updates shared by the Commission and an invitation for those attending to share questions, ideas, etc. The floor is open for questions or ideas that can be shared with other ECI Ambassadors, National Contact Points, and others.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Summary of meet-up (12 December 2025)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1) Presentation of the latest ECI updates and ECI Forum resources<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2) What came out of the discussions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"ulux-list\">\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><strong>Face-to-face activities still make a real difference<\/strong>, especially when it comes to building trust and explaining what the ECI is.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><strong>Raising awareness of the ECI remains a shared challenge.&nbsp;<\/strong>Many campaigns still start from the same point: people need to understand what the ECI is and why it is worth trusting before they can be asked to support an initiative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><strong>Using wider campaigns for promoting the ECI as a tool i<\/strong>s helpful, e.g., in the context of the Europe Day (9 May), democracy, citizens\u2019 rights, participation etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><strong>Social media strategies need to adapt to national and cultural contexts.<\/strong>&nbsp;What works in one country may be far less effective in another, making flexibility essential. For example, reference to national citizens\u2019 initiatives is helpful in countries where they exist.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><strong>Social media content works best when it is targeted and visually strong<\/strong>. Tailoring content to specific audiences, using appealing visuals and clear visual identities (including logos), was highlighted as important.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><strong>Emotional storytelling matters.<\/strong>&nbsp;Beyond explaining an initiative, connecting with people on an emotional level was seen as key to motivating them to support an ECI.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"ulux-list-item\"><strong>Influencers were seen as a useful way to increase visibility<\/strong>, although access and budgets can be limiting in some contexts. Once an initiative gathers 1 million verified signatures from at least 7 EU countries, the Commission thoroughly assesses the citizens\u2019 demands and adopts an official reply explaining what it
