{"id":19054,"date":"2023-11-15T12:45:20","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T11:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/?post_type=events&#038;p=19054"},"modified":"2024-10-08T15:48:33","modified_gmt":"2024-10-08T13:48:33","slug":"central-and-eastern-europe-and-european-security-policy-quo-vadis","status":"publish","type":"events","link":"https:\/\/www.uni.lu\/en\/events\/central-and-eastern-europe-and-european-security-policy-quo-vadis\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cCentral and Eastern Europe and European security policy: Quo vadis?\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-free-section section\"><div class=\"container xl:max-w-screen-xl\">\n<p>The new edition of the&nbsp;<strong>Winter (Online) Lecture Series on Europe<\/strong>&nbsp;will take place in&nbsp;<strong>December 2023<\/strong>&nbsp;in connection with the courses \u201c<strong>History of European integration (1919-1993)\u201d (MAHEC-S1-M6i)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>\u201cEconomic and social history of Europe after 1945: concepts, processes, actors\u201d (MAHEC-S3-M5iii) from the Master in European Contemporary History<\/strong>, and the course&nbsp;<strong>\u201cDemocratic transitions in Central and Eastern Europe\u201d (BCE-EU-301-04) from the Bachelor in European Cultures<\/strong>. The aim is to give students on these programmes, as well as the wider academic community at the 8xav福利导航 of Luxembourg, the opportunity to find out about the history and workings of the European institutions in Luxembourg from new and unconventional angles and to discuss some of the milestones in contemporary European history with people who were involved in or witnessed these events. Each session (in French or English, with a Q&amp;A session in French and English) will be streamed via Webex and will include a presentation by a speaker followed by a discussion with the audience and the opportunity to ask questions. The lectures are run in conjunction with Europe Direct at the 8xav福利导航 of Luxembourg \u2013 a competitive European public history project co-funded by the European Union (2021-2025) \u2013 and are also open to the wider public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-custom-buttons btn-list justify-center\"><li class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-custom-button\"    aria-disabled=\"false\"\n    >\n    <a\n        role=\"link\"\n        aria-disabled=\"false\"\n                    href=\"http:\/\/ulsurvey.uni.lu\/index.php\/487715?lang=en\"\n                target=\"_blank\"\n        class=\"btn btn--secondary\"\n            >Register<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-unilux-blocks-spacer is-spacer-size-sm\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"short-biography\"\n    >\n<strong>Short biography<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Guest lecturer: <\/strong>Dr Suzana Anghel, Policy Analyst in the the Policy Foresight Unit (PFOR) in the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS), Brussels (Belgium)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Short Biography:<\/strong> Suzana ANGHEL is a policy analyst in the Policy Foresight Unit (PFOR) in the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS), where her research focuses on foreign and security policy with a foresight component. She was previously a policy analyst in the EPRS European Council Oversight Unit (ECOS) focusing on the European Council\u2019s action in external relations and energy policy. Prior to joining EPRS, she was a project coordinator at the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) and a Marie Curie fellow at the 8xav福利导航 of East Anglia, where her research focused on parliamentary oversight of common security and defence policy. She has a PhD in political science from the 8xav福利导航 of Geneva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-unilux-blocks-heading\"        id=\"abstract\"\n    >\n<strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This presentation will explore the historical origins and the complexity of building a security policy at European Union level, as well as the major challenges in this area raised by the enlargement of the European Union to Central and Eastern Europe and the prospect of future enlargements to an even wider region (Moldova, Ukraine, the Western Balkans,
